iCarly, am asking to be raped.

I was watching iCarly today, while I was just flipping channels.
I said "Oh, iCarly. At least this is better than the Wonderpets which was just on."
So, I watched it.
Turns out Carly is supposed to be thirteen!
Yeah, she has a cell phone, at thirteen!
She's allowed to have a web show, at thirteen!
She's allowed to have boys over in her room, by herself, at thirteen!
She's gone on a date and had a boyfriend, at thirteen!
Oh my. This really got to me.
I don't yet have a cell phone. And I'm fifteen.
I'm not allowed to make youtube videos, and I'm fifteen.
I'm not allowed to have my best guy friend over if my parents aren't home and they known him since he was born. AND I'M FIFTEEN!
I'm not allowed to date or have a boyfriend, and I'm fifteen.
I'm not complaining about any of this stuff, because I was brought up this way.
I don't mind being hindered (except for the whole cell phone/youtube thing)
I just think it is so ridiculous and unrealistic that this is a life of a thirteen year old girl.
And, I know. You're saying "Well, Sierra, it's just television."
I know, but honestly?! Nickelodeon, what have you become?!

It really depends on what your parents let you do, I guess... I wasn't allowed to have an email address til I was 14. I'm (allegedly) not allowed to have a boyfriend/date until I'm 38. I had a cell phone at 13, but I only used it to call my mom. To be honest, that's basically all I still use my phone for. I wasn't allowed to use Facebook til last autumn. I couldn't get my ears pierced til I was 13. The list goes on (I'm 16 now). It doesn't really bother me, but I agree that television misconstrues reality.. it isn't new, but still annoying.

Uhhh at 13 I was allowed to have boys in my room alone (although I usually had boys in my basement instead), and I had a cell phone. I was a frequent flier on the internet at 10, so... it's not unrealistic at all.

Also, she lives with her 26-year-old-artist-brother, not with her parents, so her life is going to be a bit less structured than that of a supposedly "normal" teenager. She also lives in an apartment, not a suburb, so she's probably expected to get around a lot on her own (thus requiring her to have a cell phone) and is just used to those sorts of freedoms.

And you can compare Carly's laid-back lifestyle to that of her friend Freddy, who has a way overprotective mother who will hardly let him use the bathroom alone.

... this comment is really lame, but whatever, I love iCarly.

Also, about your comment on my blog, those HP books will take you a month, I promise. Once you're hooked, you're hooked.
